OpenAI Introduces Virtual Try-On for ChatGPT Shopping
OpenAI is expanding the commercial capabilities of ChatGPT with the global launch of two new shopping features, according to a report by TechCrunch. The update introduces a virtual try-on tool and a favorites function designed to assist users during online retail searches.
Powered by OpenAI’s new ChatGPT Images 2.5 model, the virtual try-on feature allows users to upload a selfie or full-body photograph to visualize how garments and accessories look on them. Users can also upload web screenshots of apparel items and prompt the assistant to apply them to their uploaded images. A new favorites library enables shoppers to save discovered products alongside their generated try-on previews for later reference.
The expansion places OpenAI in closer competition with established retail discovery platforms like Google and Pinterest, which have previously deployed similar visual search and fitting tools. The features arrive as conversational and agentic artificial intelligence startups increasingly target consumer shopping workflows.
