Google Tests Direct Flipkart Checkout in Gemini for India
Google has initiated trials allowing shoppers in India to purchase items from Walmart-owned Flipkart directly through Gemini and AI Mode, according to TechCrunch. As reported, the move marks an expansion of Google’s artificial intelligence services from product discovery into direct transactions.
During the early test, a buy button appears on select Flipkart listings for categories including smartphones and electronics. Tapping the button opens a Flipkart-branded checkout flow without requiring the user to leave the AI interface. Sources noted that Google plans to expand the rollout further in October prior to the regional festive shopping season.
The integration arrives as major technology companies incorporate commerce capabilities into their artificial intelligence offerings to handle complete online purchases. Google previously invested approximately $350 million in Flipkart in 2024, acquiring a minority stake as part of a funding round led by Walmart.
A spokesperson for Google stated that the enterprise frequently tests new features to assist users in connecting with businesses, declining to provide additional specifics regarding the trial. Flipkart did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the integration.
