Solana Drops to $114 as Alpenglow Upgrade Nears Testnet

Solana traded near $114, recording a decline of roughly 1.6 percent over a 24 hour period amid a broader market pullback that affected major digital assets, according to CoinGape. The wider cryptocurrency market capitalization fell to $2.84 trillion, with Bitcoin dropping below $84,000 and Ethereum falling under $2,700 during the recent trading session.

Macroeconomic pressures contributed to the market retreat, as rising interest rates and a stronger U.S. dollar impacted risk assets. Data from the U.S. Treasury showed the 30 year Treasury yield hovering around 5.4 percent, which tempered buying momentum across equity and cryptocurrency sectors.

Despite the downward price action, network development continues to advance on the Solana blockchain. CoinGape reported that the Alpenglow upgrade is moving toward public testnet activation as validators adopt Anza’s Agave 4.3 software. Anza previously proposed a staged mainnet rollout starting with operators managing 10 percent and subsequently 25 percent of staked SOL tokens.

The upcoming network architecture introduces significant changes by replacing TowerBFT with Votor, a design aimed at allowing validators to vote directly and achieve faster block finality. Market analysts are closely monitoring both the macroeconomic landscape and technical developments as the upgrade progresses through its testing phases.
