Anthropic Signs $45B Compute Deal With Nscale for Nvidia Chips

Anthropic has agreed to rent roughly $45 billion in AI compute from British infrastructure firm Nscale, extending its months-long spree of massive chip supply deals.

Anthropic has signed a deal to rent approximately $45 billion in AI compute capacity from Nscale, a British AI infrastructure company, according to a source familiar with the matter cited by TechCrunch. The deal was first reported by Bloomberg.

Nscale, founded in 2024, has already struck agreements with Microsoft and will supply Anthropic with compute powered by Nvidia’s new Vera Rubin chip system, which combines six chips and is regarded as a cutting-edge design. The capacity is expected to begin powering Anthropic’s services in late 2027. Bloomberg reported the agreement spans six years, with power drawn from Nscale’s flagship data center in West Virginia.

The Nscale agreement is the latest in a rapid series of compute partnerships Anthropic has pursued over the past eight months as it works to keep pace with rivals, particularly OpenAI. Earlier this month, Anthropic signed a $10 billion, six-year deal with AI cloud startup Volta, tapping a data center in Norway. In July, it struck a $5 billion compute deal with AMD.

In May, Anthropic entered a computing arrangement with SpaceX, drawing capacity from two SpaceX data centers and reportedly worth $1.25 billion per month. In April, the company expanded its partnership with Amazon by 5 gigawatts of compute and also deepened ties with Google and Broadcom.

According to TechCrunch, Anthropic’s compute buildout mirrors a broader industry trend, with Google, OpenAI and Meta all pursuing similarly aggressive capacity expansion as demand for AI infrastructure continues to accelerate.
