Meta to Launch Camera-Free AI Glasses
Meta is preparing to introduce a new smart glasses model that excludes integrated cameras, according to a report by The Information cited by TechCrunch. The device, reportedly called Luna, is designed to address consumer privacy concerns following criticism over the surveillance risks associated with camera-equipped wearables.
The upcoming hardware features six built-in microphones and a dedicated physical button to interact directly with Meta’s artificial intelligence chatbot and its Muse consumer agent. By removing the camera, the company aims to offer a less intrusive wearable option focused purely on audio-based AI interaction.
Industry observers note the new model could be officially unveiled as early as next week during Meta Connect, the company annual hardware and developer conference held in Menlo Park. Meta currently leads the nascent smart glasses market, though privacy pushback, consumer hesitation, and heavy financial losses within its Reality Labs division continue to pressure the hardware business.
