Micromax Sets Up Family Office, ₹250 Cr Deeptech Fund

Micromax has floated a family office that will earmark ₹250 Cr to back early-stage deeptech startups, according to a report by Inc42.

The family office plans to write average cheques of ₹10 Cr to ₹20 Cr into companies at the Pre-Series A to Series B stages, Inc42 reported, targeting startups that are building what Micromax described as scalable intellectual property.

Per Inc42, the initiative will focus on emerging technology sectors including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, defence tech, spacetech and robotics. The report noted that Micromax intends to draw on its existing manufacturing ecosystem to support portfolio companies, positioning itself as an active investor that offers industrial backing alongside capital rather than acting purely as a financial backer.

The move signals a broader push by established Indian hardware and electronics players to gain exposure to deeptech and AI-linked startups at a time when domestic investors are increasingly looking to back companies working on semiconductors, robotics and defence technology alongside software-focused artificial intelligence ventures. Inc42 did not disclose further details on the fund’s structure, timeline for deployment, or specific startups likely to be targeted.

The report did not specify who will lead investment decisions at the family office or provide additional financial details beyond the corpus size and expected cheque ranges. Inc42 is the source for all details in this report.
